Don't Worry, I'm Still Alive

Just a quick note to let everyone know that I'm alive. I can't do a full post right now because I don't have the time, but I'm on the coast of Ecuador right now with very little access to anything (including the sun unfortunately). I have a ton to write about including, massages, dune buggies, 12 hour bus rides, so stay tuned for future updates.

Etan- So excited by your trip and you're impressions!I had a password problem so I am a little behind-

The annoying shoeshine kids:
Lauren and I went to the school that actually teaches the smallest boys to go out to shine your shoes - the money they make is put in a special savings account for them. They attend regular schooling and they learn a trade by the time they graduate and they work (doing other things) along the way. It's a great place to volunteer and practice your Spanish. Lauren and I brought them dental supplies and toys for the kids (they actually have a dentist and an operatory - that's pretty gross- the staff does not have their teeth attended to there- even for free!) If you are at all interested I will look up the name of the school and they have a great website.

Those big hanging pigs - bleeding out is also something I will never forget! It took me a while to eat spare ribs again!!

Felt so bad for all of the wild dogs there and would have liked to get involved in some kind of movement to spade and take care of them. There are organizations that do that in Quito but I don't know the name - and it would have to be your passion to look into that.

Hope you have Banyos (probably spelled wrong - I was a very poor French student!) as a destination- you probably know about it already - great place for biking, water sports etc.

Lauren will be back in Buffalo next week and is reachable - if you want her email address let me know - right now I am at your mom and dad's and I'm not sure of her email address - (senior moment!!!)

Anyway enjoy and we are in awe and are so enjoying your blog !!!!

Love Helene
